VNA Community Services Awarded $20,000 Grant by the United Methodist Foundation to Support Food Insecure Seniors in Knox County

Galesburg, IL – VNA Community Services in Galesburg, Illinois, is proud to announce it has been awarded a substantial grant of $20,000 from the United Methodist Foundation through the Larson Memorial Trust Grant. This generous contribution is earmarked specifically to assist food insecure seniors within Knox County, aligning with VNA Community Services’ ongoing commitment to nurturing the health and well-being of the most vulnerable residents in our community.

The funds provided by the Larson Memorial Trust Grant will be strategically utilized to address two critical issues faced by seniors in Knox County: food insecurity and social isolation. VNA Community Services plans to deploy this grant in developing and enhancing programs that not only provide nutritious meals to seniors in need but also foster opportunities for social interaction and community engagement.

“Food insecurity and social isolation are significant challenges that many of our seniors face, affecting their health and quality of life in profound ways,” said Michael Bennett, Executive Director, of VNA Community Services. “Thanks to the generosity of the United Methodist Foundation and the Larson Memorial Trust Grant, we are now better equipped to expand our services to meet these challenges head-on. Our goal is to ensure that our seniors are not only nourished by healthy meals but also by the warmth of community and connection.”

The funding will support a range of initiatives designed to enhance the lives of Knox County’s seniors, including the delivery of meals to those unable to leave their homes, the organization of community meal events that encourage social interaction, and the provision of resources and support to help seniors connect with their peers and the wider community.

“By addressing both food insecurity and social isolation simultaneously, we are taking a holistic approach to senior care in Knox County,” added Bennett. “We believe that every senior deserves to live a life marked by dignity, respect, and community. This grant moves us closer to that vision, and we are deeply grateful for the support of the United Methodist Foundation and the Larson Memorial Trust.”

VNA Community Services invites the community to join in this vital effort, whether through volunteering, donations, or simply spreading the word about the services available to seniors in Knox County. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our elderly neighbors, ensuring they receive the care, support, and companionship they deserve.
